How do I burn my candle to ensure amazing scent throw and long use?

For best results on candle burning follow our Candle Care tips and you'll have a long lasting beautiful candle!

What is a wax melt?

A wax melt is a scented piece of wax. They are an alternative to candles. They require a wax melter to melt and release the scent. For tips on how to look after your wax melts and get the best use out of them check out our Candle Care page.

Why does my candle look like that?

What is frosting?

Frosting is very common in natural wax. It is a whits-ish chalky coating on the wax, usually forms on the top and the sides of the candle. It is cause by the growth of tiny crystals on the surface of the wax. All soy wax candles frost over time, but please don't be alarmed it is solely an aesthetic issue this doesn't affect your candle in anyway!

What is discolouration?

Discolouration is when the wax of the candle changes colour from the original colour of the candle. This can happen from a number of reason the main being the wax is discoloured from Vanillin which is found in some fragrances. The other most common occurance is the candle discolouring from exposure to natural light, this may occur over time not straight away. This is purely cosmetic it does not affect the candle.

What is Vanillin?

Vanillian is a primary component in vanillia bean extract, it is common in fragrances that contain vanillia.

What is tunneling?

Tunneling happens when a candle wick consumes too much volume too quickly or the wick is too small for the size of the vessel. In our case we have throughly tested our wicks and vessel sizes so there is a very small chance of this happening. Tunneling can also occur when you do not let your candle burn to its full melt pool on the first burn. This is because your candle has a memory.

For more tips on how to prevent tunneling visit our Candle Care page.

What is mushrooming/wick distortion?

Mushrooming is a sign of carbon build up. This is a common occurance, and the  easy fix is trimming your wick before burning.

Rough of bumpty tops after burning?

This is nothing to worry about it is very common. Because we use soy wax there will be a few imperfections, this is a sign that your candle is 100% soy. A rough surface after burning happens when the melt pools cools at an inconsistent rate.

Sooting and Large Flames?

Soot and large flames is a sign that your wick needs to be trimmed. Before burning your candle we recommened triming your wick to 1/4 ich in legth. This will help lessen any soot and large flames.
